Finding a vet to suit you and your dog…
Finding a vet seems simple. You get a dog and your go to local vet, sign up and done. Sometimes it is that easy, but sometimes it doesn’t feel right and you don’t feel listened to or like your dogs best interests weren’t the main priority. Now whilst I would argue a vet always has your dogs best interests in mind, at the end of the day the veterinarian and the nurses are still human and not all humans get on. It can be not liking the way you were spoken to or not listened to or just a personality clash (the most likely upset) and quite simply, I would recommend, finding another vet.
When you or your child is struggling with a doctor, you find a new one. A vet is your pets doctor and they can’t tell you what is wrong so it is really important you feel like you can communicate, are listened to, and there isn’t a personality clash between you and the vet. This is your pets health, it needs to be a priority.
In my opinion, there should be no shame in shopping around to find the right vet. If you go through a few doctors yourself before you find one you are happy with, that’s OK. It’s OK for your dog too. I will say, no matter what: be nice to the vet team even if you are planning to move on from that clinic. Before you walked in they could have just been dealing with the loss of someone else’s pet or a surgery or illness that can’t be helped. Veterinarian doctors and nurses have some of the highest suicide rates so, be kind, treat others how you would want to be treated regardless of personality clashes or not feeling heard, and then move onto another vet. It is OK to go find a different vet to suit you and your pet, I only say: do it with kindness.
